2.What initially made you decide to make your hair transition?

So though I have been natural my whole life (No Creamy Crack for me) I still went through a BIG transition period with my hair. From about 7th grade to my Junior year of college I had Dreads or Sistalocks as some like to call it.

3. How long have you been transitioning?

Transitioning took 3 months to complete…

That’s literally how long it took to pick out my dreads with a needle and water.

(because after growing my hair for that long I was NOT cutting it, TUH!)

The collage below shows the process from one dread being taken out to my whole head completely dread free..

My struggle got real soon after because I learned quickly that natural hair is WORK HUNTY!!

I got a little too excited about the length I had & got addicted to the flatiron which resulted in breakage -_____-!

(my length right after I took my dreads^^)

So yeah I thought I was popping & then..

Breakage City 😢

But with little to no heat & protective styling & a WHOLE LOT of praying the Lord Jesus came through…

4. Describe your wash day routine.

UGHHH! The dreaded wash day! Lol
Fortunately now that I have some staple products it makes it easier.

1) Section hair into 4
2) Finger detangle
3) Shampoo by section/ scalp massager
4) Deep condition by section
5) Moisturize & braid up

5. What’s a product you can’t live without and why?

2. Jamaican (or Haitian) Black Castor Oil (AMAZING!!!)
3. Shea Moisture SuperFruit Multivitamin Leave in Detangler
4. Kinky Curly Knot Today Detangler
5. TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer
(Best moisturizer ever for kinky hair, in my opinion)
6. Almost any Shea Moisture Deep Conditioner is CLUTCH!!

These products make my hair so manageable!

 6. What’s your go-to hairstyle?

My Fro (braid-out) & THE Puff are my fav hairstyles.

I achieve my puff by  using a black elastic headband or stretchy hair tie and push all the way up.

My Go To Protective styles are Marley Twists/Braids & WIGSSSS ( I LOVE A GOOD WIG CHILD!)

(Yes those are wigs below; made by me)

 7. What advice would you offer to other transitioners in need through your experience?

A. The best advice I can give just naturals in general. RESEARCH!! Find youtubers who appear to have similar hair textures as you and try different methods that they use.

Your hair is going to take & require time to reach it’s full potential so be gentle with it and nurture it.

They make it so much easier to manage your hair, which seems to be the reason why many women never want to deal with their natural hair. It’ll take a lot of trial & error but its worth it!

I am an Apostolic Pentecostal Woman, I worship the Almighty God & His name is Jesus & childdd when the bible says in Philippians 4:6 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all he has done. 7 then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” I took it very serious & I have prayed over my hair because I really wanted it to grow. May seem silly to some but THE LORD, HE WORKS, IF YOU LET HIM! OKAYYYYY!

At every & any stage that it is in. when you love your hair and walk with confidence you’ll take better care of it which encourages the flourish!

 8. What have you learned from your hair transition?

I learned to love myself at every level I’m in, in general by choosing to love my hair at all the different stages it goes through! I had to keep saying it until I believed it and now you cant tell me anything!!

Bye Yall or Whatever

Thanks Amanda for sharing your story! Your hair is a reflection of you, GORGEOUS!
